Asubio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of Asubio Pharma Co., Ltd., (Asubio Pharma) a Japanese pharmaceutical entity that is an independent entity wholly owned by
Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd.

Asubio Pharma is an R&D-driven pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Nearly 80% of its 310 employees are directly involved with research and development activities.

The word “Asubio” is derived from Asklepios, the god of medicine and healing in Greek mythology, and asu-no-bio, which means “life for the future” in Japanese. Ever since Asubio Pharma was established in 1979 as a business division of Suntory Limited in Japan, its research focus has been the creation of first-in-class, innovative ethical drugs through chemical synthesis and other new technologies, notably in the fields of biotechnology and peptide chemistry.

Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. is a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The Daiichi Sankyo Group consists of 48 subsidiaries and 5 affiliates, for a total of 54 companies with total revenues nearly $8.5 billion in the 2006 fiscal year. The Group's principal business is the manufacture and sale of pharmaceuticals.

Biomedical Research Laboratories

Lab Image Since its establishment in 1979, the Biomedical Research Laboratories group has concentrated on searching for and evaluating new drug candidates, centering research activities on cardiovascular, central nervous system and immunology/inflammatory diseases. The Biomedical Research Laboratories, the nucleus of Asubio Pharma’s drug discovery efforts, actively adopt cutting-edge biotechnology to create unique, world-class drugs, and cooperate with domestic and overseas research institutions while also conducting original research.

BioPharma Center

Lab Image The BioPharma Center conducts preclinical research of pipeline compounds, and is a biopharmaceutical research and development base with an integrated structure that extends from biopharmaceutical discovery research to supply of bulk pharmaceuticals. In addition to the Center’s unique discovery research focused on peptides, its biopharmaceutical mass production technology is on a world-class level.

The BioPharma Center recently opened a new “Launch Plant”, the first of its kind in Japan. The manufacturing facility uses unique volume production technology to produce biological bulk products and active pharmaceutical ingredients of peptides for clinical and commercial use.

Lab Image Asubio Pharma Headquarters in Tokyo is responsible for domestic clinical research, regulatory, QA/QC, Safety & Post-Marketing Surveillance, and marketing as well as global functions of project management, intellectual property management, licensing functions and general corporate affairs.
