Asubio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of Asubio Pharma Co., Ltd., (Asubio Pharma) a Japanese pharmaceutical entity that is an independent entity wholly owned by
Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd.

Asubio Pharma is an R&D-driven pharmaceutical company headquartered in Kobe, Japan. Nearly 80% of its 200 employees are directly involved with research and development activities.

The word “Asubio” is derived from Asklepios, the god of medicine and healing in Greek mythology, and asu-no-bio, which means “life for the future” in Japanese.

Ever since Asubio Pharma was established in 1979 as a business division of Suntory Limited in Japan, its research focus has been the creation of first-in-class, innovative ethical drugs through chemical synthesis and other new technologies, notably in the fields of biotechnology and peptide chemistry. The firm concentrates on cardiovascular, central nervous system and immunology/inflammatory diseases.

Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. is a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The Daiichi Sankyo Group consists of subsidiaries and affiliates throughout the world, with total revenues of Yen 952.1 billion ($10.25 billion) in the 2009 fiscal year ended March 2010. The Group's principal business is the manufacture and sale of pharmaceuticals.

New facility at Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster

Lab Image In 2010, Asubio Pharma Co., Japan, integrated its Osaka Biomedical Research Laboratories, Gunma Prefecture BioPharma Center and Tokyo Headquarters operations at the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster on Port Island, Kobe Japan.

With the company organized into professional "faculty" units specializing in areas such as chemistry, biotechnology, pharmacology and clinical research, the new, consolidated location is expected to encourage and enhance the synergies of Asubio's core drug discovery function.
